Kerala-style  Parippu Curry

This easy Kerala dal curry is made with mung dal (split and skinned mung beans), coconut, and a few basic spices.

How To Make  Parippu Curry

Step 1: Cook Dal

You can use instant pot, pressure cooker or a cooking pot (on stovetop). The dal should be well cooked and creamy.

Transfer the cooked dal to a cooking pot. Add chili powder and salt.

Step 2: Add spice

Add water if the dal is too thick. Bring it to  boil on medium-high flame.

Step 3: Boil

Blend grated coconut with cumin seeds, garlic, and water. Blend until you get an "almost" smooth paste.

Step 4: Blend coconut

Add the blended coconut paste to cooked dal. Reduce the flame and let it simmer. Turn off before it starts boiling.

Step 5: Add coconut paste

Heat oil in a small pan. Add mustard seeds. When they pop, add dry red chillies and onions.

Step 6: Tempering

Saute until the onions are browned. Once done, add curry leaves and turn off the flame.

Add the tempering to the cooked dal. Mix well. Serve the creamy Kerala parippu curry with rice or chapati.
